Department of Endocrinology
Endocrinology studies the structure and function of the glands of internal secretion, as well as the biologically active substances they produce - hormones.
An endocrinologist investigates and treats conditions such as:
- Thyroid pathology (hypo- and hyperthyroidism, inflammatory and nodular diseases of the thyroid gland, thyroid cancer)
- Diabetes mellitus (Type 1, Type 2, gestational, and other forms of diabetes)
- Metabolic syndrome, obesity
- Diseases of the parathyroid glands (hyper- and hypoparathyroidism)
- Pathological conditions related to mineral metabolism disorders and vitamin deficiencies (calcium deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, etc.)
- Pituitary disorders (hyperprolactinemia, acromegaly, diabetes insipidus, Cushing's disease, etc.)
- Adrenal gland pathology (Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, hyperaldosteronism, etc.)
The increase in endocrine disorders is attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle, stress, and disruptions in diet and sleep patterns.
Patients may experience symptoms such as:
- General weakness, easy fatigue
- Weight gain/loss, difficulties in losing weight
- Chronic constipation, diarrhea
- Dry mouth, increased thirst, frequent urination
- Increased irritability/anxiety
- Insomnia/increased drowsiness
- Rapid/slow heartbeat, unstable blood pressure
- Intolerance to cold, excessive sweating
- Hair loss, dry skin, brittle/peeling nails
- Menstrual cycle irregularities
- Numbness in the extremities
It is important to note that most of the aforementioned diseases can occur asymptomatically. Therefore, a timely visit to an endocrinologist allows the specialist to plan an appropriate treatment strategy based on highly reliable laboratory and instrumental (ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, densitometry) studies, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
